Background
My name is Rachel Walsh…
I am a Licensed and Certified Professional Midwife in Tucson AZ. I am originally from New Zealand where I trained and worked as a Registered Midwife. The maternity system is very different there; it is a midwife led system with about 92% of pregnant persons being cared for by midwives, not nurses or doctors, during their pregnancy. I gained a Bachelor of Midwifery degree at university, then passed the National Midwifery Examination which deemed me competent to practice midwifery in home, birth center and hospital settings, providing care for low, moderate and high risk pregnancies.
While I was living in California, I certified as both a Birth and Postpartum Doula through DONA International to be able to continue working within the maternity system.
Once in Arizona, I certified as a Professional Midwife (CPM) and was then licensed by the Department of Health to care for families who want to birth at home.
I have a cheeky sense of humor and believe that the healing power of laughter enriches the entire childbearing experience. I offer considerate and compassionate care when the experience becomes challenging, and provide valuable pragmatic advice to make navigating through these times easier.
